  Introduction

Throughout history, novels and cinema have ignited a love affair between mortal humans and their immortal counterpart, the vampire. We read novels and view cinematic creations of the sinister, yet beloved vampire and fall deeper in love with the idea of being part of their world. The shroud of mystery and darkness surrounding them captivate us. Within these tales, the portrayal of their elegance, charm, and sheer sex appeal drive our desire to be taken, dominated, and possessed by these beautiful creatures of the night.

A vampire is ominous, mysterious, a loner, self-reliant, attentive, and loyal. Though they keep to themselves, they often have a love they can’t live without. A love they would move heaven and earth to be with, to protect, to cherish. The same qualities humans seek to find in another and hopeful their chosen can bring these qualities out in them, as well. Though for many, they never find this reality, so they dream.

Dreams of darkness and beauty, of a lover marking them as their own, claiming them for all eternity. Dreams of eternal life with their immortal love. Romanticizing, what in reality, is truly a grueling and death defying process.

Death. Seems a strange word to be associated with the immortal vampire. You don’t read of death involving vampires and their conquests of love; only with their enemies. Yet, death does exist for them.

Within vampire tales, there’s always the element of horror and fear. However, a level of romanticism is laced within the story as well, even if it’s the faintest hint. Love is romantic and beautiful, inspiring an alluring and sexual transition into the world of vampirism; where it’s much like a fairy tale with a happily ever after. A stark contrast to the realism of a true vampire transition.

A transitioning is when a mortal human is injected with the toxic venom of a vampire. Venom comprised as a neuro and enterotoxin hybrid. Attacking not only the nervous system by suppressing respirations and heart rate, but the gastrointestinal tract, as well. Intense cramping, muscle spasms, extreme nausea, violent retching, and convulsions for days; a foreign organism declaring war on your body.

Brutal for someone in good health, but deadly if there are complications. A compromised immune system, underlying health issues; something as simple as an allergy. The difference of a bee sting being a minor irritation to one or a death sentence to another. Many factors can and often do, derail a transition.

A successful vampire transition depends greatly on the human’s physical and mental health, as well as their stamina and will to live.

And to the survivors, the small population that battle the war declared upon them and successfully transition from human to vampire …

  They are Warriors!

  Chapter 1

Splayed across the bed, Marco is utterly spent after another copulating marathon. Drained and weak. If he didn't know better, though doubt is creeping in, he would think Melaina is trying to emasculate him. All she does is sleep and fuck. Every … single ... day.

A lion in the wild sleeps twenty hours a day and spends the rest of the day mating. But Melaina has the king of the jungle beat; fucking eight to ten hours a day. Sometimes even more; fitting in a nap and an occasional feed in between sessions.

Most men dream of their partner having a high sex drive, but Marco doesn't believe anyone, whether immortal or not, has the stamina to endure sex at Melaina's current pace without suffering complete exhaustion.

Melaina ruts into Marco nearly every waking moment; into the fullness of his ass, his hip, his hand, his ever-compliant erection. And when it's in close proximity to her sex, his mouth is not off limits. She mounts him and grinds off an orgasm every chance she gets.

An insatiable appetite for sex is common for a short time after a human's transition, but two months have passed and Melaina shows no signs of slowing down. It is hard to believe this ardent, sexual being is the same person that was curled into a fetal position, writhing in pain, and nearly everting herself from the constant retching. It seems like a lifetime ago, but it’s only been a few weeks. She has obviously rebounded with vigor and a ravenous appetite for sex.

Part of Marco's weakened state is a derivative of not only the incessant copulating, but Melaina's need to feed from him. All newbies have a blood thirst requiring an abundance of feedings to be quenched. Between the fucking and feedings, his energy depletes rapidly.

With Melaina nuzzled into his side, completely sated for the moment, Marco decides now is as good a time as any to quell his own thirst. Unfortunately, he can't feed from Melaina. Not until she is able to regulate and control her cravings; the sign her transition is complete.

For now, in order to feed, Marco has to vaporize to the House of Luna de Sangre, the sanctuary of their coven and where the coven leader, Lord Sebastian resides. Marco could feed from a human or another vampire, which would be more convenient, but not sustainable. While Melaina needs an abundance of feedings, he needs the rejuvenation that can only be received by feeding from a Bloodmaiden.

Bloodmaidens and Bloodmasters are virgin vampires with the purest of blood. Their blood is a great healing agent for vampires. They live at the sanctuary with their coven leader. Vampires can use them for healing and emergency feedings. In Marco's case, feeding from a Bloodmaiden provides the sustenance he needs to reenergize himself and take care of Melaina's needs without jeopardizing his own well-being.

Marco glances at the clock and immediately reconsiders feeding right now. It is still fairly early in the evening and the chances are high Lord Sebastian is still milling around the compound at this hour. Marco has avoided his Lord for the past two months and has no intention of
running into him tonight.

Since Lord Sebastian adjured Keres to solitary confinement for the capture and psychological torture of Melaina, he has requested several meetings with Marco to discuss his sister's progress and rehabilitation. Marco is concerned about Keres and wants to know how she is doing, but he can't risk running into Lord Sebastian, at least not now.

Keres was ordered into solitary confinement and hard labor, but Marco was ordered to wipe Melaina's memory and leave her alone. Something he didn't do. Not only did Marco ignore the command from Lord Sebastian, but went a step further to transition Melaina into a vampire. He knows there will be repercussions from the coven leader for his actions.

Marco is not angry with Keres for putting him in this position. He actually feels sorry for his sister. Although Keres was hell-bent on destroying Melaina, Marco's true love, he knows it was due to her lack of experience around humans that led her down that destructive path.

Keres spent most of her life around vampires, working for the greater good of the coven. She was the first female appointed to the council for the House of Luna de Sangre; appointed by Lord Sebastian himself. Though studious and loyal to the coven, Keres is no pushover. She's assertive, strong-minded, dogmatic, and independent. Clearly capable of taking care of herself.

If Keres has a blemish in her veneer, it is her incognizance of human emotion and behavior. Throughout her life, she maintained her refuge within the realm of the vampire world. When she did venture out among mortals, she refrained from having personal contact with them, preventing her from learning their nuances and habits.

Then one day, Keres meets the mortal, Andrew Collier. She was smitten with him from the moment she first laid eyes on him. A neophyte in communicating with humans, Keres interpreted Andrew's actions very singularly and literally. She inferred his charm, chivalry, and attentiveness as qualities of a lover. She fell hard for Andrew. In her eyes, he was her chosen mate. This was a momentous decision for Keres. Unlike Marco, Keres takes pride in coven traditions.

However, due to her minimal interactions with humans, Keres couldn't discern that Andrew's behavior was common for a bartender. Flirty, kind, and engaging, with a memory like an elephant. If you are a regular patron, bartenders may know where you work, who you are married to, as well as asking about and showing concern for your day to day life.

Keres believed Andrew's thoughtful demeanor to be exclusively for her, even though she had seen cozy pictures of Andrew with another woman - Melaina Harrison. But a mortal woman was no threat to Keres. She knew she could manipulate the situation and woo Andrew away. Unfortunately, time wasn't on her side, as Andrew was killed in a skiing accident. An accident she blamed on Melaina.

Andrew's untimely death sent Keres into a tailspin. Keres blames Melaina for Andrew's death because she believes Melaina planned the ski trip and refuses to acknowledge anything to the contrary.

Regardless of the accident, the most critical issue and the one that Keres refuses to accept, is the fact Andrew was gay. His relationship with Melaina was a ruse to keep the truth of his sexual proclivities hidden from his family.

Andrew planned the ski weekend getaway for he and his lover. Melaina came along as part of the ruse, staying in a separate bedroom. Melaina and Andrew were like brother and sister, not lovers. Andrew was Melaina’s only family.

If only Keres would have listened to Marco when he tried to explain Andrew and Melaina’s relationship to her. They could have avoided the desperate situations they currently inhabit; Marco in hiding from Lord Sebastian and Keres serving a sentence of hard labor.

Marco is not blameless. He understands it's a tragic series of poor choices that has led them all to this juncture. All of them have a burden of responsibility to bear. For now, he has to be in self-preservation mode and that means avoiding Lord Sebastian and Keres.

Marco makes his way off the bed and over to the desk. He shoots an email over to his attorney seeking confirmation that Melaina’s letter of resignation has been accepted by the school board. A newly transitioned vampire has no place in a classroom of children with pure, virginal blood. Though feeding from children is forbidden by coven law, a new transition doesn’t have the self-control to resist the delicious temptation. As such, Melaina’s lack of resistance and the grave process of transitioning led Marco to relocate her to his home.

Being Melaina has no family and no one she was really close with, it was easy for her to just disappear. Newton Elementary was notified of Melaina’s unexpected opportunity to teach abroad and that she had accepted. From Melaina’s phone, Marco texted her friend Natalie during the early stages of Melaina’s transition. Posing as Melaina, he repeated the ruse of an offer to teach abroad, saying she had to leave immediately, but would be in touch. Since Marco’s initial contact with Natalie, Melaina has continued to routinely text her friend to reinforce her own well-being.

Melaina eases behind Marco, slipping her arms around him. Her lips leave a trail of soft kisses along the ridge of his shoulders, while her fingers explore his chest in search of the erogenous tips that incite his arousal. Pinching his hardened nubs between her fingers, she tugs them while she nibbles along his neck, piercing his skin for a little taste.

Though it has been less than an hour since Marco was deep inside her, his cock is rock hard. As if he were about to sink his cock in pussy for the very first time. Fuck Lust.

  Chapter 2

Sunlight filters through the sheer fabric covering the window, illuminating the Buttercream walls and washing the room with a serene glow. The effect purposeful. Providing a calming and soothing environment, especially for someone residing within the same four walls twenty-three hours of every day.

As far as solitary confinement goes, Keres has it pretty easy at the House of Luna de Sangre. Though the walls are barren and the furniture scarce, save for a twin bed and a small table and chair, her accommodations far exceed the dank, darkness of solitary confinement in a typical jail. And her en suite is completely furnished with a shower and a soaking tub.

To Keres, the soaking tub is an oxymoron considering there's nothing to soak in; no bath milk or mineral oils or bath bombs. Nor does she have designer shampoo or bath wash to which she is accustomed. Instead, she is provided store brand shampoo and conditioner and a bar of Dove soap. All of which she believed would cause her to have reptilian skin and straw hair.

Much to her delight, the soap is not harsh on her skin at all. Her curls are a tangled mess. Untamed and flowing freely about her head without access to a blow dryer. And whether it be the shampoo and conditioner or the absence of heat from hairdryers and flatirons, her hair remains relatively soft and healthy.

Without the luxury of a phone, television, or radio, Keres has been left to her own thoughts. The doors and windows are locked. Her only visitor is a Bloodmaiden for which she feeds. Not even granted a Bloodmaster, as she is not permitted any pleasure. Lord Sebastian knows her too well. He knows she would elicit pleasure from the virgin masculinity of a Bloodmaster. And he is correct in his thinking.

Though she is confined to a room of solitude, she is held prisoner within her mind. Locked away with memories of Andrew and what could have been. Locked away with her anger at Melaina for Andrew's death. Locked away with her lost dreams. Dreams of a life with Andrew, of leadership within the coven, and of someday having a family of her own. Everything shattered by her vengeance for Andrew's death.

For fifty-eight days Keres has scoured over every detail of every memory she can recall since meeting Andrew for the first time. Was her vengeance justified? Had she misread Andrew's feelings for her as Marco had said? Was Melaina truly to blame for Andrew's death? Each day brought a different answer. Each day agonizing over the choices she made, the love she lost, or the regret of not killing Melaina when she had the chance.

No matter the truth, her actions and her actions alone brought this sequestration upon herself. The solitude and loneliness are her penance to bear. And as crazy as it seems, s
he is looking forward to the hard labor portion of her sentence. She longs for personal interaction. She longs to see her family.

Betrayal or not, she misses her brother. In the depths of her heart, she knows Marco would never intentionally betray her. This knowledge is the crevasse in her absolution of Melaina's responsibility for Andrew’s death. Marco's steadfast defense of Melaina plants a seed of innocence in Keres’ mind.

A clicking sound draws Keres' attention to the door as a Bloodmaiden enters the room.

“Miss Keres, I’m here to collect your journal. Have you made your required daily entry?”

Keres has surmised that Bloodmaidens are performing dual roles during her solitary confinement. They deliver food three times a day, as well as providing for her blood thirst. That is, when she is not being stubborn and refusing to feed.

Without a word, Keres shoves the small wastebasket toward Celeste, the Bloodmaiden standing just inside the room.

Taking the basket in hand, Celeste looks at the shredded paper laying at the bottom.

“Miss Keres, Lord Sebastian will be sorely disappointed you did not follow his instructions. Journaling your thoughts can be very beneficial for you.”

“We’ve had this same routine for fifty-eight days. Lord Sebastian should be used to the disappointment by now.”

Keres has not worked through her emotions. She has no definitive idea how she feels about anything that has transpired over the last couple of years, much less the last few months. Her feelings are bouncing around like a ping pong ball. The suggestion of putting her erratic thoughts on paper for Lord Sebastian to read and decipher is out of the question. Her thoughts will remain in her mind, with no intention of disclosing them, no matter the consequence.
